Finding the right therapist is the most important part of therapy.

The value of your mental health:

I used to pay a $35 copay for my own therapy but when my therapist went out of network, I had to decide how much my mental health was worth to me.

Now I'm no longer willing to let an insurance company dictate who is the best fitted provider for my personal care, just based on whether or not they agree to a contract.

Research studies have shown over and over that:

the most powerful part of therapy is the relationship between you and your therapist, no matter what therapy modality is used.

So whether you choose to schedule with me or not, I encourage you to go with who you feel most connected to, regardless of the price.

There are several therapists in Chattanooga who do accept multiple insurance plans. If you absolutely must use your insurance, I'm happy to refer you to those I trust as qualified clinicians.

Fees & Insurance

Like to save money? Me too!

I get it. You have a lot of money taken out of your check each pay period to pay for insurance and you want that insurance company to actually get you something!

But here's the truth:

Insurance companies reimburse therapists at a lower rate than they're really worth. Due to the lower reimbursement, agencies who rely on insurance referrals often push therapists to see more and more people each day, leading to burnout and compassion fatigue. Sometimes these therapists will see 8-10 people a day. (I know, I used to be one of these.)

And what happens when you're the 8th session of the day? Less personalized care for you. More generic "and how does that make you feel?" questions and "that must be so hard" responses.

If you've had other therapists that just weren't exactly what you needed and you're connecting with me here on my site, I'd encourage you to consider where your priorities lie and where your mental health is on that list. Is saving money really the most important thing when it comes to finding a therapist?

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The initial consultation is a phone call that lasts between 10-15 minutes. Once you contacted me online, I'll email you a consultation form with some basic questions that will give me a good idea of what you are looking to get out of therapy and what questions you'll want answered during our phone call. This is a phone call only and won't include video. You'll want to be sure you are in a private place during the call.

This call is not the time to share long details about what's bringing you in. It is for planning and screening. If we both think we will work well together, we'll schedule our first appointment, the intake or diagnostic interview. This intake is a 50 minute appointment and where I will spend more time hearing the details of your story.

  • RE Counseling is located at 513 E Main Street in downtown Chattanooga.

  • From Main Street, you can turn onto Adams Street and find a gravel lot on the side of the house. If that lot is full, you can park along Main Street.

  • I work very part time to be able to hold space emotionally for clients with heavy trauma as well as attend to the needs of my family. My current hours are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 9-2.

  • I am a Christian and am involved in my local church. My faith does inform my worldview, and impacts my counseling in that way. How much faith or spirituality is brought into counseling is your decision. Some clients choose to have their spirituality heavily integrated into their therapy, and I find much joy in facilitating that process. In my experience, clients with a strong sense of spirituality have a deeper level of change in counseling than those who don’t. I see spirituality as a great resource and I’m here to help you deepen that connection.

Some clients are not Christian and prefer not to have any mention of God or faith, and that is fine as well. I will respect your boundaries on what we talk about in session.

I understand that many have been wounded by the church and/or religious people, so I also hope to provide a safe place to process through this pain in a nonjudgmental setting.

If you are looking for solely spiritual guidance, I would like to refer you to a pastoral counselor or spiritual director as my specializations are in mental health and not theology.

  • It's a fair question but unfortunately not one that any therapist would be able to predict for you, especially before getting to know you.

The more complex your trauma is, the longer it will take with any type of therapy. EMDR is still faster than other types of therapy.

Some clients have worked with me for 1-2 years while others work with me for about 3 months. It is a collaborative decision we will discuss as often as necessary.
